Gallery
The project was for a gallery installation in large loft space to show photographs. The problem was one of scale - how to show intimate small works of art in a large space? The answer was to break up the space with plinths for showing art. The plinths were modest in construction (limited budget, but their shape was oriented to make smaller sub-spaces and interesting sight lines.
A small “gallery in a gallery” for showing more experimental works; again, it was separate but also part of the whole.
Plan view - on the left was the original gallery project, with the smaller “gallery in a gallery” under its own roof. After a few years, the gallery grew and expanded to the right. The original ideas of smaller spaces made by plinths in the first gallery were modified for showing of much larger photographs.
The gallery was divided up into smaller spaces, more suitable for viewing photographs, with shaped plinths. They subtly shaped the space and allowed for both intimate viewing and long views at the same time.
