Other Projects

Over the years, work has been done on other urban design projects.

Circulator - Phasing Program for Light Rail

The goals of the Circulator were in competition with each other: the Mayor wanted to tie the commercial centers along the lake together from Michigan Avenue to McCormick Place, north to south. Yet the commercial aspects of the project need the traffic, from the train stations to the loop, east/west with the daily worker. Planning diagrams were prepared to explain these differences and study if a phasing plan could be developed to build the project over time.

Urban issues

The Circulator project raised a variety of issues that to be considered. Research was done to show construction costs per segment and how construction complications could be addressed for existing businesses.

Art Program for the Circulator

An Arts Program was organized for the Circulator project, and featured this proposal by Richard Rezak for a special column to be used at the canopies, critiqued here by Julia Fish.

The proposed hub would offer direct service to O’Hare and interface with existing Red and Blue lines. The complex flow was analyzed and laid out in collaboration with Ken Kruckemeyer of MIT and with DLK.
