Learning Center
The Learning Center at Wright College is the heart of the school. The overall campus featured four large buildings, of which the Learning Center was the most prominent and unique form. Envisioned as a giant “barn of learning”, it was designed to provide a center to a commuter campus. It centralized many different aspects of learning to provide a 24/7 center to the college. Included were all the special and general use computer laboratories and work areas, the main library, and all faculty and departmental offices, with open study areas throughout.
On its upper level is a large open reading area, a quiet place for study. The project was the last major work of the office of Bertrand Goldberg Associates, where Geoff served as project architect and member of the design team.
The interior of the Learning Center at Wright College features a large Reading Room at its center, at the top of a separated area. This provides a thoughtful and restful space , something not readily found at a busy City College. It is connected to the rest of the library areas by stairs.
